Unlike the Kings that preceded him, Jesus is the one true King for God’s people who faithfully represents their Father in Heaven in leading, protecting and redeeming his people.
There are so many promises in the Old Testament referring to the promised king that it’s difficult to know what to include and how to summarise the promises, but here in this lesson is a start. We call the special king who is promised, the ‘promised king’ and we will emphasise the fact that he will be king forever, unlike all the other kings.

While many of Judah’s kings did not obey God there were some who did. This lesson takes a closer look at Josiah and how he helped the Israelites to obey God again.

The last in this unit on King Solomon, we’ll revise the series of lessons, reinforcing the main themes that we have looked at and showing that Solomon was sometimes a good King, sometimes a bad King, but Jesus is the perfect King.
King Solomon knew he should obey God, never marry a woman who wasn’t an Israelite and never worship a made-up god. King Solomon disobeyed God; he married women from other countries and he worshipped made up gods. They made King Solomon turn away from God.
God has generously given Solomon wisdom. His wisdom was sought after by many over many years, including a Queen from a different country! Jesus was an even better and wiser King than Solomon because he is God’s son.
God had led King David to victory over their enemies and established peace for God’s people. As God was establishing his Kingdom, David wanted to establish permanence by building God a temple to replace the temporary tabernacle (tent). God promised it would be Solomon, David’s son who would build such a temple. This lesson take us through God keeping this promise.
When given the ultimate ‘Genie bottle’ opportunity to ask God for anything, Solomon asked for wisdom. God kept his promise and made Solomon wiser than anyone else. As Solomon takes on the Kingship of Israel from his father David help your kids understand that Jesus has God’s wisdom, that he is even wiser than Solomon, and through his Spirit allows us to understand his wisdom.
God had kept his promise to David to make him a successful king. Wrapping up the King David series, we’ll see what words David passed on to the next King, his son Solomon.
Teaching about David’s disobedience to God helps children realise that although King David was a great king, he also sinned — he wasn’t a perfect king. God punished David and he forgave David. There was a later King who would obey God completely - Jesus.
Having set David up as a successful King over Israel, God made promises to David and his family. What were they? Did God keep his promises?
God chose David to be King of Israel, and a very successful King, but is he the best King of all?

This Easter let’s remind kids (and ourselves) the joy of an empty tomb! Jesus is risen, death could not hold him, we have much to look forward to! What a ray of hope to be reminded of as we hear of people around us leaving their earthly tent behind to be with Jesus in heaven.
