Bible Reference:

2 Samuel 7:12-16; Psalm 89:3-4; Isaiah 9:6-7, 11:1-5; Daniel 7:14; Matthew 1:1-17; Luke 1:30-33

Lesson Aim:

To tell the children about God’s promised king and what the Old Testament says about him. There are so many promises in the Old Testament referring to the promised king that it’s difficult to know what to include and how to summarise the promises, but here in this lesson is a start. We call the special king who is promised, the ‘promised king’ and we will emphasise the fact that he will be king forever, unlike all the other kings.

Main Message:

God’s promised king is Jesus.

MEMORY VERSE:

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way;and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.   Isaiah 53:5-6

Creative

King Over All: Use some scrap fabric to create a collection of people, and use in your lesson to show Jesus is King over all people. You can find some people templates at muminthemadhouse.com.

Family Tree: Before the lesson, try making a family tree of your family to understand the concept of descendents. You could draw, use photos, playdoh etc. (only go as far back as grandparents so it does not become too confusing).
