It’s a common question… what are we going to do with that room - the one with all the chairs “in the round”?

The committee has looked at several options, from using it in a modified way, using different orientations, and even considered making the dip in the middle bigger, or stripping out the foyer wall..

However, with advice from consultants and thinking about the experience of church we’re wanting people to have, the current plan is to level out the floor and reorient the room towards a stage on the southern wall. Some of the reasons for this are:

  • The current construction of the ‘stands’ in the 4 corners of the room are relatively easy to demolish (we’ve crawled in underneath them and had a good look).

  • While the current bay seating is fixed, it’s relatively easy to remove. We might even be able to reuse it. However, almost every bay of seats is a different width and has a kink along them, which makes them pretty tricky to setup in an orientation that would work for us.

  • Turning this room into a space for our church services is a good investment for growing the gospel. When we make the room ‘our own’ we’re convinced it will have been worth it.

There are some other things that we’ll want to do in this space; We’ll need to upgrade some of the air-conditioning (since we’re moving the external air-con units), and we can give the room a larger feel by removing the suspended ceiling and giving it a vibe that’s a bit more suited to our services - but we’re in the process of getting consultants and advice on that now.
