God’s son super strong

UNDER 5’s

TEACHING MATERIAL

overview

This year all kids will be learning the same things about Jesus, sometimes using different examples of His strength, but still with the same goal in mind – to show kids that:

  • Jesus is God,

  • He is strong enough to take ALL our sin on His shoulders, and

  • He still rises triumphant over sin.

Therefore,

  • We can trust and believe in Jesus (faith).

Day 1

Day 1

Calming the Storm

READ: Mark 4:35-41

Key Idea

  • Jesus is God’s Son, that’s why He can calm the storm.

Application

  • We can thank Him for nice weather. We can pray to Him when we are in scary weather.

Context

God made the world and everything in it. Jesus, who helped God make everything, can control the weather with His words.

In the beginning, [Jesus] was already there. [Jesus] was with God, and [Jesus] is God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were made through him. Nothing that has been made was made without him.

[Jesus] became a human being. He made his home with us.

Day 4

Day 4

Jesus Makes a dead girl ALIVE!

READ: Mark 5:21-24, 35-43

Key Idea

  • Jesus is God's son, that's why He can make dead people alive.

Application

  • Awe - Wow, Jesus is no ordinary man.

  • John 14:1-4 looks at great promises by Jesus we can trust and believe (and is a song by Colin Buchanan).

Possible Teaching Context

Children may have had a pet or even a relative die. They might want Jesus to bring them back to life too. 1 Thess 4:13-18 is a good place to turn if you come across this.

Be sensitive with this one.

Day 5

Day 5

Jesus Died for Us

READ: Mark 15:25-38

Key Idea

  • Because Jesus is God's son, He died for us!

Application

  • We can say sorry to God.

  • We can thank Jesus for dying in our place.

  • We don't have to be scared of dying - Jesus came back to life (ref John 14 promises).

Possible Teaching Context

Consequences at home might be time-out, thinking time, saying sorry, toys taken away, etc.
God requires death as a consequence, but Jesus died for us. Therefore God is not angry at us any more.
